Updating plugins is an important part of website maintenance as it ensures that your website is running on the latest and most secure version of the plugin.
Here are the steps to update your WordPress plugins:
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard
- Click on the 'Plugins' tab on the left-hand side menu.*
- If there is a new update available for a plugin, you will see a notification under the plugin name that says 'update available'.
- Click on the 'update available' link to go to the update page.
- Check the box next to the plugin that you want to update or select 'update all' to update all available plugins.
- Click on the 'update plugins' button.
- Wait for the update process to complete.
Before updating your plugins, it is recommended that you backup your website first. This is because plugin updates can sometimes cause compatibility issues with your website theme or other plugins, which can cause errors or conflicts. By backing up your website, you can restore it to a previous version in case something goes wrong during the update process.
You can backup your website manually by downloading a copy of your website files and database. Alternatively, there are many backup plugins available that make the backup process quick and easy. You can also hire MacKenzie Arts and Design to manage this for you.
*NOTE: to access the plugins tab your login must allow it. Not all user levels can perform this function.
